Tim: Another Hulk Sequel or Not?

Tim: Well let's look at this report first on increased Marvel profits based on pre-sales of Iron Man and the Hulk.

http://www.reportonbusiness.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080805.wmarvel0805/BNStory/Business/?page=rss&id=RTGAM.20080805.wmarvel0805
NEW YORK — Marvel Entertainment says profit rose 61 per cent in the second quarter, helped by pre-sales of the movies “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk.”

The company says it earned $46.7-million, or 59 cents per share, in the three months ended June 30, compared with $29.1-million, or 34 cents per share, in the same period last year.

Sales are $156.9-million, up 55 per cent from a year ago.

Thomson Financial says analysts expected earnings per share of 45 cents on revenue of $131-million.
Marvel Entertainment

The Globe and Mail

The second-quarter results include foreign pre-sales from the two movies, which opened during the quarter, but not box-office receipts. Both were produced by the New York-based company, unlike the “Spider-Man” franchise, which is produced by Sony under license from Marvel.
Now lets' just take into consideration what the Incredible Hulk made worldwide in the theaters so far which was Worldwide: $228,420,427

The production budget was Production Budget: $150 million. Don't know how much was paid for advertising, but with just that it would seem the movie did make a profit. This doesn't count what the movie will end up making through DVD and toy sales.

So is there still hope for the Hulk movie franchise? I'd say yes especially if DVD sales end up being really great. After all at least at this point Marvel knows anytime they put out a Hulk movie it's going to go over a 100 million easy. This last movie got really good reviews which usually helps the next movie. Really all they need is some unique story to create a big Hulk boom the next time around. With this last movie they were certainly on the right track.

Tim: Hulk Movie at Comic Con

Tim: Check out these latest Hulk interviews and news links.

NEW YORK -- Will New York do for the Hulk what San Diego did for Iron Man?

While Marvel Studios' May 2-releasing Iron Man movie has been basking in positive buzz since a presentation at last summer's Comic-Con International, its other tentpole movie, The Incredible Hulk, has been flying well below the blockbuster radar.

Exclusive: Letterier, Feige and Hurd on Hulk's Return

ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! had a chance to talk to three of the primary creators of this comic book relaunch: director Louis Letterier, producer Gale Anne Hurd, and Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige to find out first-hand some of the challenges they faced while making another Hulk movie after the somewhat poorly-received Ang Lee movie. All of our interviews were fairly brief but hopefully informative to fans of the comic books dying to know whether the new movie will deliver.

Tim: Hulk Movie 2008 Release

Tim: Well I can tell you I've been a fan of the Hulk since I first saw the old Bill Bixby TV show. After that I picked up a Hulk comic book at the local drug store and I've been reading the comics and watching whatever TV or movie of the Hulk that's been produced ever since.

I think superhero movies are great. I think that fans complain too much about this that or the other thing because they forget what it was like in the early days when superhero movies were few and far between.

The first film had it's good points and it's bad. Too much talk and enough Hulk Smash would probably be the biggest point, and the origin was a let down. The comic book origin would have been much more explosive and worked much better on the big screen.
